“Underwater Safety” Meeting

The “Underwater Safety” meeting offered exactly the atmosphere we wanted: relaxed, friendly and at the same time full of valuable information for people passionate about water sports. Participants took part in practical first aid demonstrations, open discussions, networking opportunities and conversations about new directions for developing the community.

The presentation of the ScubaRomania survey results was delivered by Manuel Stanoiev, a diving enthusiast with more than 30 years of experience. The analysis showed that the Romanian public is divided between people who already practice diving and those who have never had contact with the sport, largely because of a lack of information.

Among respondents, 80% practice water sports, while the desire for adventure is the main reason they choose diving. The main challenge identified was the limited number of suitable diving locations in Romania, followed by the associated costs. Diving instructors play an essential role in the training and safety of participants.

Nicolae Breahnea, commander of the Special Rescue Detachment of ISU București–Ilfov, shared valuable insights into the work of divers within the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. The presence of the entire ISU diving team added an inspiring dimension to the event and earned the respect of the audience.

The practical component of the meeting was presented by Ionuț Bold, instructor at ISU București–Ilfov and trainer of SMURD paramedics, through clear first aid demonstrations for drowning incidents and other emergency situations.

The relaxed atmosphere also encouraged contributions from the diving instructors attending the event. They offered recommendations regarding diving safety and expressed their willingness to participate as speakers at future meetings.
